Sata and environment

The mountain under all its facets makes live a great majority of the local population, and seduced very numerous customers. It amazes us, by the variety of its sites and its activities. Conscious that its activities are in total interaction with this exceptional environment and that it current and future acts have to allow to protect it, the SATA made a commitment for several years in multiple action

 This commitment is going to develop in the future to aim before some years at a certification in the environmental domain. Already, very numerous concrete initiatives are realized to allow to protect this magnificent environment and to guarantee its sustainable development.  .

  

DEVELOPMENTS

• For 20 years, participation in the creation of the Pastoral Land Association.
• Engagement in the rehabilitation of the Sarrazins Channel, an art structure of more than 13 km, which brings the water from Lac Blanc to Villard Reculas, irrigating all pastures and plantations of le Signal and La Sure.
• LSetting up of long-term measures to rehabilitate plant cover after equipment works: thus, more than 20 hectares were turfed and are now grazed by herds.
• Yearly maintenance of alp lawns, precious landscapes of the Oisans mountains
• Limitation of the number of professional farm cart tracks, maintained and strictly controlled.
• Environment protection clauses, planned at the signature of contructional works contracts, with obligation to respect the terms and conditions.
• Number of ski lifts gradually reduced. The reduction of the number of pylons is an objective pursued each time an apparel is replaced. In the past 10 years, more than 300 pylons were removed.
• Powerlines on the ski area are gradually buried.

OPERATING

• Energy consumption is analized and each meansof limiting it is implemented.
• LThe snow production, snow grooming and ski lifts use compaigns are optimized in order to limit energy spending and to preserve water resources 
• LThe use of additives in the snow production process has always been prohibited.On the Grandes Rousses Massif, artificial snow has always been produced with water and air only, and anithing else.
• Dustbins are installed all over the ski area. The collection of waste is organized throughout the year. A cleaning operation is systematically carried out on the ski area at the end of the season.
• A very thorough study is in hand in order to use biological fuels ni our caterpillars.
• UReprocessing and selective sorting of the company's waste (rags, aerosols, hand free skip@ss etc...) are implemented.

EQUIPMENTS

• The environmental performance of the snow generating stations is reinforced.
Comparaison de deux types d'enneigeurs : Safyr, nouvelle génération très performante et York 40,
ancienne génération, premiers enneigeurs installés à l'Alpe d'Huez.
Les enneigeurs nouvelle génération type Safyr ont travaillé 10h, consommé 900 m3 d'air, 100 m3 d'eau,
110 kW d'électricité et produit 200 m3 de neige, à - 4° toute la nuit.
Un enneigeur ancienne génération type York 40 à - 4° aurait consommé 5000 m3 d'air, 69 m3 d'eau,
620 kW d'électricité et produit seulement 140 m3 de neige.
Il aurait fallu 4 jours de production pour avoir la même quantité de neige, à condition de bénéficier,
pendant toute la période, des mêmes bases températures, ce qui est de plus en plus rare de
nos jours.
La différence de coût de production et donc de consommation energétique est très importante : pour
200 m3, 10 E pour l’enneigeur Safyr et 80 E pour l’enneigeur York 40.
• Since 1986, during first investments in artificial snow, whereas no reglementation required it from us, we created the first hill reservoir on the Plat des Marmottes, with a capacity of 15000 m3, in order not to have to request neither torrent, nor natural lake. ever since, three other reservoirs were buiklt with the same mind

MANAGEMENT

• The staff of the SATA is made sensitive in the practice of eco-gestures: limitation of the energy spending (electricity, running), organized by the public transport of the staff, etc.
· The skills and the know-how in the field of the environmental protection are gradually strengthened.

Each of our small daily gestures improves or deteriorates the quality of our environment. So that the mountain remains a place of evasion and freedom in the pure state, help us, help the nature! 

RESPECT THE  NATURE, DO NOT CAST GARBAGES OR BUTTS. TO DISAPPEAR,
IT IS NECESSARY :
• 1 or 2 years for a butt,
• 5 years for a chewing gum,
• 10 years for a metal soda box,
• 100 years for a plastic bottle,
• 200 year sfor a hand free skip@ss,
• 4000 years for a bottle of glass…
Numerous garbage cans are at your disposal at first and in the arrival of the skilifts on all the domain. Limit your packagings and equip yourselves with a bag to take away your waste with you.
