The ‘must rides’ of Alpe d’Huez…
- The unmissable trail of the Megavalanche (#4) and its 32km of descent and endurance.
With a starting line at 3330m on the Sarenne Glacier, wheels in the snow, and a finish line 2600m below in the verdant valley, you’ll ride across all types of terrain: snow, rocks, shaded pine forest paths and exposed dry fields! The best riders complete the course in less than an hour! And the qualifying route: the Chamois (#2) totally resurfaced last year, you’ll love the challenge of the winding bends and the North Shore section towards the end.
- The Poutran downhill (#3) used for the French downhill championships, this trail delights from the start with its enormous banked turns and steep slopes. Its technical requirements make it a great training slope for accomplished riders.
- The Signal Tour (#27) a cross-country route with incredible panoramic views. With 17km of trail for the 500m descent it’s a great choice for riders of a strong standard who’ll enjoy the 360º views of the area. You start with a view of Alpe d’Huez, then the Muzelle, the Plat de la Salle, the Grand Rochtail and Grand Renaud, the peaks of the Taillefer and Belledonne range, before returning to Alpe d’Huez.
- The path of the Sardonne Forest (#7) an alternative descent through the undergrowth and fields, this fast track has some fantastic banked bends. But remember to take the time to enjoy the view of the countryside and the valley below. Recommended for experienced riders.
- The North Shore (#32) for pure, concentrated pleasure! Show-off your technical bag of tricks on this well-equipped trail, including: shores, jumps, steps, slabs and drops… all at top speed!
- Estacade+Huez (#29 and #31) a trail to feel the flow! Take on the 400m drop without putting your feet on the pedals. This trail is scattered with a huge variety of jumps and obstacles. Once you reach the village of Huez, stop for a quick drink, take the télévillage lift back up and start again… there’s a lot of variety on the route and you’ll want to try every combination.

Particular care is taken to respect the environment
The Ski Anim’Alp team (which manages the MTB areas of Alpe d’Huez), like all the SATA teams who care for the pistes of Alpe d’Huez, aim to integrate the pistes and the MTB trails with the surrounding countryside, to respect the delicate balance between the natural environment and the paths for walkers and cyclists. All the districts in the Alpe d’Huez area adhere to the Charte Nationale, which promotes sustainable development in mountain resorts.
